The Brew Room – Hotel Savera, Mylapore, Chennai

If one were to take Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai and drive towards Marina, they would notice this cozy café hidden inside a pretty big star hotel. The Brew Room. Honestly speaking, I have a huge soft corner for this place because of how beautiful it looks no matter what time of the day it is. Mornings – cozy and quiet; Nights – cozy, lit and romantic. One would not be surprised if they spot a celebrity or two in The Brew Room. I’ve seen Gautam Vasudev Menon during almost all my visits there that I’ve come to believe that he probably loves this place way more than I do. 😛

This branch of The Brew Room is situated inside Hotel Savera, on the left as soon as you enter. They have decent parking space, which is a little aloof from the main hotel parking, but is right opposite to the café. The Brew Room has both indoor and outdoor seating, each with its own wins. As for me, it is a tough decision to make each time. The outdoor seating would let me be in a quiet and calm space amidst considerable amount of greenery, while the indoor seating would give my eyes unlimited access to cute cutlery and beautiful coffee vending machines. The entire place feels very peaceful and the moment I enter, it becomes very hard for me to believe that it is situated right on one of the arterial roads in the city.

Coming to the food – in the many times I’ve been here, I’ve ordered various brews. I’ve ordered pasta, Spanish omelet, French toast and even some of their desserts. I just noticed that most of the dishes I tend to order here have a country, that too European, prefixed to it. It is probably the universe throwing signs at me while I blissfully ignore them…haha!

The hot chocolate here is to die for. Unlike most other places that give Bournvita/Boost disguised as hot chocolate, The Brew Room seems to have perfected the recipe for a great sip of hot chocolate. It almost instantly, and quite literally, fills your heart with warmth.

The pasta – usual stuff, nothing to rave, but nothing to complain either.

The Spanish omelet – talk about whisking the egg whites separately to death, this is the fluffiest omelet I’ve had in my entire life. It is served with bread and an extra dip. The bread was soft and crunchy, and the dip also pretty tasty.

The French Toast – again most places get this dish horribly wrong. But I have zero complaints about The Brew Room’s French toast. It is served with maple syrup(duh!). If you just let the toast absorb the maple syrup for a bit and then dig into it…YUMM!

While you’re there, do not miss their chocolate cheesecake. I’ve a sweet tooth and would eat even a piece of paper if it contains the word ‘chocolate’. The exaggeration aside, I do get extremely frustrated when people get basic recipes wrong. If I’m recommending their cheesecake, you can take it for granted that it is really reaaalllly good!

Now, let’s talk service and numbers. The staff here have a really pleasant demeanor. If I were to rate how expensive The Brew Room is on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being very cheap and 10 being very expensive, I would rate it a 7. But if I were to rate the value for the money I spend on the same scale, it would go as high up as a 9.

TL;DR and bottom line : Pleasing ambience, friendly staff and good food – The Brew Room has a near perfect recipe to win everyone’s heart…and tongue!
